Mass, not weight
Everything in this category is really mass. Weight is a force — mass times local gravity — and it changes with altitude and latitude, while mass does not. Everyday usage merges the two and no harm is done, because scales are calibrated for Earth's surface, but the distinction is why the SI unit of force is the newton rather than the kilogram.
The tons
Three different tons are in common use and they are close enough to be mistaken for one another: the metric ton is 1,000 kg, the US short ton is 2,000 lb (907.18 kg), and the UK long ton is 2,240 lb (1,016 kg). A shipping quote in "tons" is ambiguous by about 12% unless it says which. The pound itself is exact: 0.45359237 kg by definition.
